60 Seconds with Portware's Alfred Eskandar
What does your company do?
Portware provides multi-asset trade automation solutions that are powered by artificial intelligence. Our fast, open and intuitive platform helps automate and bolster the most complex trading workflows, while delivering immediate access to the widest selection of broker algorithmic strategies and direct trading destinations. We’ve used this approach to develop the industry’s first “thinking” execution management system (EMS).
What does your job entail? What’s your favorite part of the job?
My job focuses on crafting and executing the overall vision of the company. My favorite parts of the job are the strategy and creative process. It’s energizing to work with smart, talented people and progressive-thinking clients to collaborate on the next big idea—the “thinking” EMS.
What do you do to unwind?
I cook. Anyone who knows me knows I love food and love to cook. When I come home stressed, I go to the kitchen and I cook. Focusing on the right blend of ingredients and technique really frees the mind and you quickly forget the problems of the day.
Who is the most influential person in your business life? Why?
Daniel J. Courcey. He’s not in the financial industry, but he is one of the greatest communicators I have ever met, and now one of my dearest friends. He is currently the head of major gifts (fundraising) for a very prestigious school. He is a model for how I communicate with clients and team members. Communication is at the heart of doing anything well, and Daniel has a great approach. It’s a combination of precise information that has the ability to emotionally connect with people.
What is your favorite book? Why?
The Count of Monte Cristo—it is just riddled with complex personalities, injustice and justice. It’s so creative and deep in its planning, execution, and single-minded focus. It’s a great reminder that good guys can finish first.
What was your first car?
Renault. It’s a French car. You can laugh now.
What is your favorite vacation spot? Why?
The Greek Islands. There is nothing more beautiful than approaching Santorini at sunset from sea.
