Asia Awards 2022: Best IT initiative—Standard Chartered

Standard Chartered wins the best IT initiative category in this year’s WatersTechnology Asia Awards thanks to its Exasol enterprise database management solution. Exasol has been tested to be atomicity, consistency, isolation, durability (Acid)- and SQL-compliant, and allows low-latency read and write into in-memory databases. It has also been validated and tested for installation on-premises and in the cloud, and can be scaled horizontally. Exasol was also tested for active–active setup between sites for data synchronization and support for complex entitlements, and can compress storage in order to introduce economies of scale.

In terms of practical success, Exasol has seen a 300% growth in user logins, a 1,000% increase in successful conversations (where the virtual assistant provides a satisfactory answer to the user), and a 37% increase in automated functional queries (where zero manual handling is required).

Looking ahead, Standard Chartered hopes to capitalize on the volume of data harvested from its production environments and build a production intelligence center. This center will develop predictive capabilities using machine learning to detect issues before customers are impacted. The firm will also be extending Google’s site reliability engineering framework model to aggregate service level indicators end-to-end across its critical payment service journeys, providing real-time measures of customers’ experience.
