McGraw-Hill Inc. acquired high-flying MMS International Inc. ending protracted bidding war with International Thomson's InFiNet group. MMS, with about 20,000 customers for its economic analysis and commentary services and revenues in the $30 million range, cost McGraw-Hill close to $100 million according to industry sources.

PC Quote Inc. has announced all requirements for National Computer Systems Inc.'s purchase of one million new shares of common stock have been met. NCS announced purchase on Jan. 5, but said certain conditions must be met by Feb. 15. NCS acquired 15% interest in PC Quote for $3.25 million and holds options to acquire 750,000 common shares of PC Quote from existing shareholders. Exercise of these options would increase NCS's stake to about 25%.

The Association of International Bond Dealers of Zurich, Switzerland has introduced Computer Updated International Database containing information on more than 10,000 international securities. CUPID is supplied to subscribers on magnetic tape, with daily updates available on dial-up basis from AIBD's London computer center. Cost of service is 26,000 Swiss francs annually.

Merrill Lynch & Co. has taken over from Aria International Inc. as development partner for NASDAQ's new Level II/III file server -- also called NASDAQ Digital Interface. Server will allow users on LAN to access large database of NASDAQ prices and will provide gateway back to NASDAQ for updates and trade reports. Aria was to have developed NASDAQ-DI for pilot implementation at Hambrecht & Quist, but recent setbacks at Aria forced NASDAQ to look for another partner.

Track Data Corp. has introduced MX-386, a new PC-based quotation service that features greater functionality than the company's flagship MarkeTrack product. Like MarkeTrack, MX-386 offers quotes, alerts, monitors, tickers, news, graphs, simulations, arbitrages and access to third-party databases. MX-386 also provides graphics and real-time spreadsheets that dynamically update price and volume data.

RMJ Securities Corp., a subsidiary of British & Commonwealth Plc has apparently broken ranks with Newco cohorts Garban Ltd. and Fundamental Brokers Institutional Associates. RMJ reportedly sent letter to customers indicating plans to broaden access to its transactional and information services beyond the community of primary and aspiring government security brokers. RMJ will act as its own guarantor. RMJ's move follows stormy session last week of PSA task force investigating viability of expanded access to U.S. government bond pricing. When task force was announced on January 30, a PSA representative stated the group was "expected to complete their deliberations in two to three months."
