The higher-bandwidth offering will be available by July, and aims to meet increasing demand for bandwidth, and the growing need for on-demand services and network flexibility. Colt officials say demand is particularly coming from Hong Kong-based financial institutions, as well as businesses with high-bandwidth requirements.

The expansion in Hong Kong comprises both fiber-optic and Ethernet architecture and will provide connectivity to about 80 percent of Hong Kong’s commercial buildings.

The expansion of its network in Hong Kong is part of Colt’s ongoing investment project in Asia, with similar projects underway in Japan and Singapore.

The Colt IQ Network is a 100-Gbps network, which connects 24,500 buildings and 700 datacenters worldwide, and has been optimized with software-defined networking capabilities.

Colt’s high-bandwidth services are designed to meet increasing demand for fast, secure and reliable direct connectivity to global markets, says Kenji Hioki, Asia chief commercial officer and regional executive at Colt. “Many companies are looking to transform their digital infrastructure in the face of growing demand for bandwidth and connectivity requirements,” he adds.
