Dow Jones has appointed former Bloomberg chief executive Lex Fenwick CEO of the News Corporation-owned newswire and Wall Street Journal publisher, effective Monday, Feb. 13, filling the role that former CEO Les Hinton vacated last July when he resigned following the phone-hacking scandal at News Corp.'s UK newspaper The News of the World.

Fenwick joined Bloomberg in 1987, holding roles that included managing the vendor's European operations, manager of global sales and chief operating officer before being named CEO in 2001-a role he held for seven years-when Bloomberg founder Michael Bloomberg was elected mayor of New York City.

Most recently, Fenwick served as CEO of Bloomberg Ventures, a spin-off incubator subsidiary of Bloomberg LP devoted to developing new business lines under the Bloomberg brand, including the Bloomberg Link conferences business; Bloomberg Institute, an online recruitment and education platform; and Bloomberg Mart, an independent research portal.

At Dow Jones, Fenwick will be based in New York and report to Chase Carey, president and COO of News Corp.
