Market data distribution system vendor Micrognosis has waved good-bye to Robert Romeo, its head of digital data distribution systems; in his place, the vendor tapped ex- Telerate associate director of transaction systems development Tom Chow. Chow took his post Aug. 3. At the same time, Micro announced it is moving -- from its Staten Island-based headquarters to Iselin, N.J. -- as of Aug. 12. Romeo is now assistant vice president of market data at Union Bank of Switzerland in New York. He works alongside market data analyst Greg Kozar. It still remains unclear whether UBS has formally replaced Ivano Togni (IMD, July 18); one source says that while Romeo will devote his attention to data distribution systems, Kozar will be responsible for dealing with data vendors. All three are members of a dedicated market data group formed by the bank in January (IMD, June 20).
The London Stock Exchange (LSE) announced that Fields Wicker-Miurin will be nominated -- and in all likelihood appointed -- for as director of strategy and finance at the next LSE board meeting Sept. 8. As director, Wicker-Miurin, an American, will oversee the LSE's business, strategic planning and financial management. She spent the last 10 years working in European markets -- most recently for Mercer Management Consultants; earlier she worked for Philadelphia National Bank/CoreStates. Wicker-Miurin replaces Jane Barker, director of finance; Barker quit two months ago to come to America to join her husband, says an LSE spokesperson. There was no director of strategy before Wicker-Miurin.
Dow Jones Telerate is looking around for some more staff. There are currently openings in its New Jersey offices for an account manager and a sales support account manager. The account manager will sell forex systems to banks and brokerage firms (see related story, this issue), and should have three to five years of experience in both foreign exchange and sales. The sales support account manager will work with the sales staff to provide post-sale support for all existing and new accounts.... Telerate is also looking for a network planning engineer (seven years experience required), a manager of network projects (two to five years), an assistant project manager (five years) and a network management specialist (five to ten years).... Meanwhile, Dow Jones & Co. is looking for a product manager for its Princeton, N.J.-based Information Services Group, and an assistant director of distribution strategy for the same unit.
Telerate in the U.K., meanwhile, has managed to make some hires: As client liaison executives, Gary Appleby joins from Knight-Ridder, Mike Bogacz left CQG to come aboard, Alan Mitchell signs on from FutureSource and Mark Zimmerman does the same from Eurobrokers.
ADP also has its feelers out. The vendor is seeking a lead programmer analyst and a microtechnology programming specialist.
Comtex Scientific Corp. has appointed Charles Terry president. Acting president Mark Estren resumes his former role as executive consultant. Terry replaces David Hoppman, who in May left Comtex to pursue "personal interests," says a spokesperson. Estren led the search which found Terry, who was most recently president of Corporate Cost Management, a Maryland-based computer information service business. Before that, he served as Compuserve's general manager of corporate cost management.
