Louis Morgan, chairman and chief executive officer of PC Quote Inc., underwent a successful coronary bypass operation in late June. He is recovering at home. After recuperating for four weeks, Morgan will begin "telecommuting" with PC Quote executives, according to a spokesperson. Ric Chapetto, PC Quote's president in charge of the South American and Pacific Rim markets, says that the vendor's management team is handling Morgan's absence by "just doing our jobs like normal; there's no Alexander Haig running around here." The management team is comprised of: Mike Hoffenberg, vice president of operations; Chris Perry, vice president in charge of marketing; Janis Kwiecinski, vice president heading customer service; Keith Tylke, vice president of development; and Chapetto. PC Quote officials say they expect Morgan to return to full-time work after an eight- week convalescence.
Nomura Securities International Inc. recently reorganized the information technology support group responsible for its trading room data distribution systems. Details remain sketchy at press time, but sources say that 12 executives exited as a result of the reorg -- including data services manager Wayne Stauffer, Micrognosis systems administrator Flavio Gurjao and voice systems administrator Karen Gomerac. Sources say that replacements haven't yet been named, and that the reorganization reflects Nomura's centralization aspirations.
Merrill Lynch & Co. has appointed Edward Downey Jr. manager of its securities pricing services division. Downey replaces Ronald Ciesla, who is now director of Merrill's fixed-income marketing. Downey has been with Merrill since 1981. Most recently, he was a senior trader in preferred stocks; prior to that, a sales manager in the securities pricing area.
Primark Corp. has put its hand to its Datastream International subsidiary, sparking some major management changes there. Primark chairman and chief executive officer Joe Kasputys is assuming the additional post of Datastream managing director. He replaces Tony Helman, who held the job since 1976. Helman will now serve as Datastream's chairman until January 1995, when he will retire; until then, Helman will head up "special projects and provide guidance," according to a spokesperson. Meanwhile, Stephen Herman -- recently Datastream's sales and marketing director -- has been given the new position of deputy managing director. Reporting to Kasputys, Herman will be responsible for most aspects of Datastream's operations. Ira Herenstein, president of Datastream North America, will retain his position and responsibilities.
Steve Baraboscho has left Cowen & Co., after a tenure of some two years, to work in sales support at Quick America Corp. He reports to Lou Leonardi; his replacement at Cowen has not yet been named.
Reuters has hired Andy Spivack away from the Bond Buyer, where he was director of third-party services. At Reuters, Spivack is a marketing manager in fixed-income. He now reports to Steve Kane, marketing director, fixed-income. No replacement has yet been named at the Bond Buyer.
The Securities Industry Automation Corp.(SIAC) has elected two new members to its board of directors -- Bear Stearns & Co.'s Hugo Monformoso and Morgan Stanley's Christine Reilly. The board consists of fourteen members, according to a SIAC spokesperson.
Knight-Ridder Financial/Americas promoted Kim Wilson to vice president of operations; Wilson was most recently Knight-Ridder's director of customer service. Wilson reports to Patrice O'Grady, K-R/A's managing director. Wilson replaces Dee Wilson, who left Knight-Ridder recently. Dee Wilson couldn't be reached at press time.
Reuters seeks new staffers to develop automated Windows- based trading systems applications and system software on a PC platform. Candidates should have an MS in computer science and experience in Microsoft Corp.'s Windows and C or C++.
Dun & Bradstreet Corp.'s Interactive Data Corp. is looking for a supervisor of municipal bond research. Candidates should be knowledgeable about munis and proficient in Microsoft's Windows and Excel. Once hired, the new supervisor will be responsible for day-to-day collection, input and quality control of descriptive muni bond data.
