Thomson's Muller Data Corp. senior vice president of sales and marketing Lynda Michaud has decamped after five years, in order to work for State Street Bank. Her title at State Street hasn't yet been established. "It's closer to home," Michaud says of State Street's Quincy, Mass., office. When asked whether the vendor plans to replace her, a Muller spokesperson says: "We're not sure what the plans are; maybe this is a possibility to try something new and different."
In other Thomson news, Joe Mysak, editor and publisher of the Bond Buyer has resigned -- effective the third week of March. A source at Bond Buyer says that Mysak's duties will be split, creating separate offices for the publisher and editor duties. On April 11, Jeff Weiner, formerly executive vice president and publisher at Rand Publishing Co., will become the newspaper's publisher. No editor has yet been named. Mysak hasn't announced where he'll go from here, says the source.
Reuters is looking to increase its presence in the fixed-income analytics arena. Reuters is soliciting would-be fixed-income analysts to work -- on a "full-time temporary" basis -- for six to 18 months at its Stamford, Conn., offices. The ramp-up in fixed-income staff follows Reuters' purchase late last year of Stamford-based Capital Market Decision Inc. (CMD), the company that Steve Levkoff formed to develop Reuters' Decision 2000 fixed-income data and analytics service (IMD, Dec. 20, 1993).
Reuters is beefing up the payroll in other areas, too. The vendor is looking to take on four go-getters to play a role in developing "new revenue opportunities in the advertising, entertainment, education and high-technology industries." Reuters is also seeking a training and educational resources team -- including a sales and product trainer, a senior training specialist and an "IMS technical trainer."
McGraw-Hill Inc.'s Standard & Poor's is campaigning for personnel in personnel; the company's human resources department is looking for a manager in staffing and development with six years experience. On a promising note, the position "calls for enthusiasm." The financial services firm is also looking for a senior staffing consultant, with three years experience and, hope against hope, "networking capabilities." The required level of enthusiasm for this post wasn't specified.
Primark Corp.'s Datastream International Ltd.'s vice president of corporate development Ira Herenstein has been promoted to the post of president of North American operations. Herenstein joined Datastream in February 1993, after a 28-year stint at McGraw-Hill. Over his years at McGraw-Hill, Herenstein wore a variety of hats, serving as both president of Standard & Poor's and executive vice president of McGraw-Hill's Computer and Communications Information Group. He was also founder and chairman of S&P Securities. For Datastream, Herenstein's promotion is a "recognition that the North American Market is a very large growth opportunity, so we will be further adding to staff," says a Datastream spokesperson. No new hires have yet been announced, though.
Thomson's ILX, still claiming to be "the world's fastest growing" market data company, is looking for C programmers -- specifically, a Sun/Unix programmer, a senior database programmer and sundry other database programmers.
Barra Inc. is looking for a consultant to work at its Berkeley, Calif., headquarters. Responsibilities would include "data supplier relationship management." Candidates need two years experience and an MBA. And maybe a newsletter subscription.
