What goes around... Previously a Telerate salesperson, Kevin Milgram has now joined Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Co., as a senior market data manager. Milgram had rested briefly at Micrognosis between Telerate and Smith Barney (IMD, May 24) and will now handle the firm's negotiations with data vendors, who are no doubt anxious to supply data for Smith Barney's planned new 800-position trading system.
Reuters lost one of its highest-ranked salespeople to Citicorp's CrossMar Inc. last month. Jim Maclay joined the smaller data vendor as vice president, charged with heading CrossMar's efforts to sell its foreign exchange, U.S. Treasury and metals data directly to end-user firms and banks.
Jeremy Toye has been named manager of Reuters' Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa region. Toye, who formerly headed the Southern region for Reuters in Latin America, was temporarily left without a post when half of Reuters Americas' business unit managers picked up and changed places earlier this month (IMD, July 6). Maintaining equilibrium in the Reuters universe, Toye replaces Wassim Henoud, who abandoned that same job in REMA to take a post in -- you guessed it -- Reuters America, where he will head the Northeastern district out of Boston.
More globetrotting. Reuters wants to buy in to Hong Kong, it seems. The vendor is looking to hire a business development manager -- MBA or equivalent fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese only, please -- to seek out and acquire whatever will "broaden Reuters product range both within and beyond the core business operations." Mergers and acquisitions experience would be "a big plus" -- and Reuters will even throw in a "holiday bungalow."
Closer to home, Reuters is searching for a New York-based marketing manager for derivatives products (who isn't these days?).
Dow Jones Telerate would like to hire a product manager for optional services, and account managers for Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
Dow Jones proper has a hunt on for a project manager and a supervisor for PC platform development, as well as systems programmers and a workstation designer for a UNIX/Motif-based development effort.
Telerate is also seeking someone to handle its public relations. Along with the "competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package," the lucky hire will have the pleasure of dealing with IMD on a biweekly basis.
Other highly-desirable positions still open: Larry Jones' post as president and chief executive officer at Govpx Inc. (IMD, July 6); marketing and customer service directors at Knight- Ridder Inc. (IMD, June 21); Scott Rumbold's job at Dow Jones Telerate in charge of transactional products (IMD, May 24) -- although applicants had better act fast here: sources say Rumbold's tasks are being portioned out incrementally as the post remains empty.
