Reuters America has appointed Paul Eedle senior vice president and editor, America. Eedle fills the spot vacated by Andrew Nibley when he was named executive vice president and editor of Reuters NewMedia. Before his promotion, Eedle was editor, media news and television, America.

Glen Head, N.Y.-based Market Guide Inc. named Dennis Slovak vice president of sales and marketing. Previously, Slovak was "involved in the financial public relations business," according to an announcement. Before that, he worked for CDA Investment Technologies Inc., where he was senior vice president of sales and marketing and general manager of the Spectrum Institutional Ownership division. Market Guide sells and develops a research and analytic database of over 6,700 publicly traded companies.

Merrill Lynch & Co.'s John Steffens was named chairman of the Securities Industry Association. He is executive vice president at Merrill's private client group. He succeeds Lehman Brothers Inc. vice chairman Howard Clark. Meanwhile, A.B. Krongard, chairman and chief executive officer of Alex Brown & Sons Inc., was named chairman-elect.

Howard Barnstone was named vice president of data product management at Dun & Bradstreet Corp.'s Interactive Data. He replaces Edward O'Rourke, Jr., who resigned for personal reasons after 20 years with the vendor. Barnstone was previously Interactive's director, data acquisitions. Interactive says it's now looking to fill Barnstone's old spot as well as a newly created seat as product manager for corporate actions.
