January
At the very start of the year, former Telerate chief executive Chris Feeney joined Thomson Financial as head of retail wealth management (Jan. 9). In the same week, Nasdaq's Bill O'Brien gave up his role as senior vice president of market data distribution to become SVP of new listings. He was swiftly replaced by Randall Hopkins (Jan. 23).
Also in January, Inside Market Data learned of a series of defections from London-based PTS Consulting, including Janet Simpson and Amanda Dainton, who joined rival BCS Group, and Ian Goodall, who joined Green Hat Consulting (Jan. 30). In the same issue, IMD revealed that Cantor Market Data had lost SVP Jeffrey Bandman and vice president of product development Eugene Sorenson. Sorenson later surfaced at Bloomberg.
February
Dan Martone
left his role as SVP of market data operations at Citigroup for an undisclosed role within the bank (Feb. 13), while in the same issue, IMD reported that Mike Atkin, former head of the FISD, had resurfaced as staff director of the Enterprise Data Management Council. Reuters named Mark Redwood head of the vendor's Sales and Trading business, and also announced that Julie Holland, head of its Research and Asset Management business, would retire at the end of the year (Feb. 20). She was later replaced by Lipper CEO Michael Peace (Sept. 25). In the same issue, Fritz Klein, former head of the GSTPA, was appointed CEO of Swiss data vendor Fides, replacing Joachim Benn.
March
Dale Richards
left his role as president of enterprise data management at SunGard to form his own consultancy, LakeFront Data Ventures (March 6). Jeffrey Woodruff, former hedge fund services manager at Reuters, joined research management software vendor Code Red as managing director of sales and marketing, later moving to Wall Street on Demand (March 13; Nov. 20). Another Reuters refugee, former Americas CEO Phil Lynch, joined private equity firm as venture partner (March 20). John Bottega, formerly global head of reference data management at Credit Suisse, was named chief data officer at Citibank (March 27).
April
Interdealer brokers suffered as Andrea Danese was apparently ousted from his role as CEO of Tullet Prebon Information after only a year in the role, and was replaced by Henry Ann, while John Barber left his consulting role heading Tradition's market data business (April 10).
May
Revere Data's chief operating officer Kevin O'Brien took on the CEO role following the departure of Glen Wolyner (May 1). Richard O'Dea, former SVP of global sales and account management at SunGard Data Management Solutions, joined ComStock as VP of sales (May 1). Reuters hired Niel Siekerka, former VP of enterprise data solutions at Merrill Lynch, as head of markets data (May 22). John Peck left his role as global sales director at Informa Global Markets after less than six months, to join Quantifi (May 29).
June
In a series of promotions, Reuters appointed Devin Wenig chief operating officer, and named Jon Robson and Joerg Floeck as presidents of the Americas and Europe, respectively (June 19, 26). Former BNY Jaywalk and FactSet exec David Frankel joined search technology provider firstRain (June 26).
July
Emil Lawrence
, former e-commerce business manager at broker BGC Partners, surfaced at Fortis Bank in Brussels (July 10). Reflecting interest in fixed-income data, Thomson Financial hired Simone Warner as VP of fixed-income content, and Tony McCormack as fixed-income content manager (July 17). Simon Brain left Barclays Capital to join Credit Suisse as global manager of market data analysis and projects, while former global head of market data Caroline Burnett moved to Singapore (July 24).
August
Bursa Malaysia appointed Kong Khai Chua, formerly head of its depository, as head of the exchange's Information Services group (Aug. 7). Jane Platt, former COO of Reuters' customer segments, became CEO of the UK government's National Savings and Investments (Aug. 14).
September
Loretta Ferrentino
left her role as director of marketing and sales at GovPX to join Interactive Data as senior director of marketing (Sept. 11), while at the same time KX Systems' Janet Lustgarten returned to the vendor full-time as president, having stepped back from the day-to-day running one year before. As SuperDerivatives' growth prompted the vendor to create a market data division, it hired Bonnie Eshel, former country manager in Reuters' Eastern Europe emerging markets business, to head the unit (Sept. 18). Meanwhile, Douglas Schwartz, market data services project manager at UBS, joined Barclays Capital as client services manager (Sept. 25).
October
Activ Financial hired three former Reuters staff—Shawn Kaplan, Tony Tao and Tom Wilbeck—followed by Timothy Neo and Patrick Dunne in Singapore (Oct. 2; Oct. 16). David Berry, a leading industry figure, defected from Société Générale to Barclays Capital as global head of market data (Oct. 9), while in the same issue we reported that Markit had hired David Lefferts, former VP of fixed-income strategy at NASD as director in New York. Also, Brian Sentence again took the reins at Xenomorph when Greg Johnson left the vendor only four months after accepting the CEO role. Roberto Rivero, former head of sales and marketing at the London Stock Exchange, left his Intelligent Growth consultancy to become head of marketing and product development in Europe for Standard & Poor's (Oct. 16). As CMS WebView changed its operating model, Lee Playford, software development director at the ticker plant vendor, left the vendor for pastures new (Oct. 23). And Hong Kong-based market data consultant Keiren Harris joined software and trading arcade provider Blue System (Oct. 30).
November
In a surprise exit, Lou Eccleston, one-time senior Bloomberg exec, parted ways with Thomson Financial, where he was president of global sales, marketing and services (Nov. 6). Code Red hired Jaime Bean to replace the departed Jeffrey Woodruff, who was joined at Wall Street on Demand by Jed McKnight, former head of research at Lipper (Nov. 13; Nov. 20). And the staff of Relegence became AOL employees after the Internet provider bought the news aggregator (Nov. 13).
December
Iman Szeto
, vice-chair of IPUG's Exchanges SIG left Northern Trust to join UBS Global Asset Management as global data program manager (Dec. 4). Tullet Prebon Information bolstered its sales team in the US with the hires of Dan Skelton, Bobert Becker and Hernando Lascarro, while fixed-income liquidity and data platform LiquidityHub appointed Robert McLeod, Morgan Stanley's head of fixed-income strategic initiatives, as its CEO (Dec. 11).
