The latest release features improvements to its “debugger” component, which will make it easier for developers to find where a problem has occurred during coding, and to inspect the code surrounding an error.

Other enhancements include the introduction of shared ports, which Kx officials say was requested by a customer to handle ever-increasing data loads, and an improved memory allocator, which can make a program run orders of magnitude faster in certain scenarios.

Version 3.5 also builds on enhancements made in last year’s release, which allowed users to modify and move larger datasets faster and more efficiently, while also removing barriers to integration with non-Kx systems.

“This latest version of Kdb+ has major speed-ups for complex joins which is one of the areas in which our database has always been particularly strong,” says Simon Garland, chief customer officer at Kx, in a statement.

The production version of kdb+ 3.5 is now available to licensed users. The free 32-bit version of version 3.5 will soon be available on the vendor’s website.
