Advent Software Inc. has tapped Henry Murphy, formerly of Maximum Data Corp., to head up development of the multicurrency version of Advent's Professional Portfolio management system, sources say. The hush-hush system, code-named Geneva, is due to be launched this year. Murphy parted company with MaxData this spring (IMT, April 17).

Andersen Consulting Inc. is rumored to be throwing battalions of consultants at Los Angeles-based Capital Group in an attempt to upgrade or replace parts of the management and trading system there (IMT, Feb. 21).

Financial Engineering Associates Inc. has added a new risk measure to its valuation and risk measurement product, Global. Charm (whose name is intended to differentiate it from common risk measures designated by Greek letters) enables the evaluation of heterogeneous derivative portfolios by giving definition to the concept of "carry", the cost of financing deferred delivery of global commodities. Global operates using a set of Lotus 1-2-3 add-in risk management modules.

WSC Group Inc., parent of Belvedere Financial Systems Inc., is said to be receiving a good reception for its system at such test sites as Fidelity Trust, Harvard Management Co. and State Street bank.

The international trade confirmation system being developed by Thomson Financial Services at the behest of U.K.-based Industry Users Group should be in beta test in ten U.K. institutions this August.

Depository Trust Co.'s Russ Ferro passed away on May 26. Involved in systems development, particularly in relation to trade confirmation services, he participated in the design of the company's IDD system.

New York University's Department of Finance, Law and Taxation is offering a part-time Diploma in Financial Management. Classes are scheduled for evenings and Saturdays. The course covers topics such as financial accounting, financial systems design, quality and production management, and capital expenditure analysis.

The six member firms of EJV Partners L.P. are set to pump an additional $7 million each into the partnership's coffers. An upgrade to EJV's UniVu data and analytics service--Release 2.3--is due out this summer. The EJV has set a tentative monthly per-user charge of $2,000 for UniVu.
