The solution will provide firms with a complete, timestamped audit trail of their activity.

Metamako’s low-latency, FPGA-enabled network devices will provide lossless data capture and nanosecond-precision timestamping, while VelocimetricsVMX monitoring software will consume and analyze the data. This will allow financial institutions to measure, monitor and gain insight into their business and trade flows quickly, accurately and flexibly.

Velocimetrics currently provides applications for gaining end-to-end visibility into trading data via its VMX EndtoEnd solution. The collaboration with Metamako enables capital market firms to deploy a solution that delivers insights “closer to the flow,” or within the actual network, allwing packets to be accurately timestamped, aggregated and conditionally routed to VMX’s high-volume, small form-factor capture and analytics technologies.

The companies say this allows clients to be alerted to potential problems much faster than before.

The solution also provides a complete audit trail while combining and rationalizing many components used to build out network-centric analytics, reducing total cost of ownership.

Velocimetrics CEO Steve Colwill says Metamako’s “soft network approach” provides the basis of a flexible and dynamic monitoring fabric required by evolving regulatory and operational demands. “As aggregation and tapping are done on a single device, a lot of rack space can be saved; this is an important consideration in co-location, as rack space is very expensive,” he says.
