People Moves: Broadridge, Tradeweb, Ice, FCA, and more

A look at some of the key people moves from this week, including Rana Yared (pictured), who joins the board of Tradeweb as an independent director and a member of the audit committee.

Broadridge names Tyler Derr CTO 

Broadridge Financial Solutions has announced the appointment of Tyler Derr to CTO. He will serve as the senior-most technology officer and be responsible for overseeing Broadridge’s global technology teams including enterprise-wide software engineering, product delivery, architecture, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and technology operations.  

Derr will report directly to CEO Tim Gokey. He joined Broadridge in 2012 as the CTO for the global technology and operations business, and as its chief administrative officer. Prior to joining Broadridge, Derr worked at Oppenheimer, as the CTO for the global tax business of H&R Block, and in private equity. 

He succeeds John Hogan, who had served in this role since 2014. Hogan will advise Gokey and Derr in his new role and continue his firm-wide roles on risk and capital committees and oversee Broadridge’s India operations, reporting to Gokey. 

Tradeweb appoints Jacques Aigrain and Rana Yared as independent directors 

Fixed-income trading venue Tradeweb Markets has announced that Jacques Aigrain and Rana Yared will join its board as independent directors in August. Aigrain will chair the compensation committee and serve as a member of the nominating and governance committee. Yared will serve as a member of the audit committee. 

Aigrain brings more than 30 years of financial services expertise and leadership experience to Tradeweb’s board, including seven years as an advisor at Warburg Pincus and nine years at Swiss Re, where he was CEO from 2006 to 2009. Prior to Swiss Re, he spent 20 years in global leadership roles at JP Morgan Chase in New York, London and Paris. He currently serves as chairman of the board of LyondellBasell, chairman of Singular Bank SAU, and director of Clearwater Analytics. He previously held board positions at WPP, London Stock Exchange Group, LCH Clearnet Group, Lufthansa, Resolution, Swiss International Airlines, and the Qatar Financial Authority.  

Yared is a general partner at Balderton Capital, a venture capital investor focused on European founders. She joined Balderton in 2020 following 14 years at Goldman Sachs, where she was a partner in the principal strategic investments group and later in GS Growth. She currently holds board positions at The Penn Fund and Wabash College. This appointment marks her return to Tradeweb’s board, having previously served as a director for five years prior to the company’s 2019 IPO.  

Ice promotes new leaders at futures exchanges 

Intercontinental Exchange (Ice) has announced the succession of new leaders to serve as presidents of several of its futures exchanges, including Ice Futures Europe, Ice Futures US, Ice Futures Singapore, and Ice Endex, among other roles.  

Chris Rhodes will become president of Ice Futures Europe. Rhodes succeeds Stuart Williams who, as announced last year, will become Ice’s COO. Rhodes served most recently as COO of Ice Clear Europe and prior to that as global head of financial derivatives between 2015 and 2019. 

Jennifer Ilkiw will become the next president of Ice Futures US, succeeding Trabue Bland, who is assuming a new position overseeing Ice’s futures exchanges globally. Ilkiw will relocate to New York after almost 15 years working for Ice in Singapore as head of Ice Asia Pacific. 

Maria Levanti, who has worked with market participants across Asia-Pacific during her 11 years with Ice in Singapore, will become president and COO of Ice Futures Singapore and Ice Clear Singapore. Levanti is currently responsible for pricing and analytics at Ice Data Services in Asia-Pacific. 

Levanti succeeds Lucas Schmeddes, who will become president and COO at Ice Endex in Amsterdam, taking over from Pieter Schuurs, who plans to retire at the end of July. Schmeddes served as COO of Ice Endex before moving to launch Ice Futures Singapore in 2014. 

In addition to these appointments at Ice’s futures exchanges, Tim Bowler, currently president of Ice benchmark administration in London, will assume a new role in New York which will include a focus on Ice’s clearing business, leveraging his background in international regulatory issues and product development. Clive de Ruig, most recently the COO at Ice Futures Europe, will become president of Ice Benchmark Administration, with Kate Hancock succeeding de Ruig as COO at Ice Futures Europe. 

Ashley Alder appointed FCA chair 

HM Treasury has announced the appointment of Ashley Alder as the new chair of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Adler is currently CEO of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in Hong Kong, a role he has held since 2011. He also chairs the board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (Iosco) and sits on the Financial Stability Board’s plenary and its steering committee. 

His role as FCA chair will begin in January and he has been appointed to a five-year term. 

HM Treasury has also reappointed Alice Maynard and Liam Coleman, who respectively chair the FCA’s audit and people committees, to the board for their second three-year terms. 

Horizon Software appoints new CTO 

Horizon Software, a provider of electronic trading solutions and algorithmic technology, has announced the appointment of Olivier Masdebrieu as CTO. Masdebrieu, who joins from vendor Itiviti, will be responsible for continuing to develop Horizon’s technology platform and lead global teams to deliver new strategic solutions.  

He previously served as global head of index and structured product electronic trading and managing director for Morgan Stanley in London and Hong Kong.   

CME Group’s BrokerTec hires senior director 

Altaz Dagha has joined CME Group’s BrokerTec as senior director of BrokerTec products. Dagha is based in Singapore and reports to Robert Siddons, senior director of US Treasuries in Asia-Pacific. He is responsible for US Treasuries client relationship management, sales and onboarding and BrokerTec’s hybrid platform in off-the-run US Treasury instruments. 

He joins BrokerTec from Coex Partners where he was senior director of Asia rates. Prior to that, he held a variety of front office fixed-income and FX-related positions at BNP Paribas, Westpac Institutional Bank, Lloyds Banking Group, and HSBC Investment Bank. 

Richard Mailhos named managing director at Meradia 

Meradia, a consulting firm for investment performance transformation projects, has promoted Richard Mailhos to managing director. Mailhos will collaborate with Meradia’s management team as they drive the firm’s continued expansion across North America and internationally. 

Mailhos will continue to steer client engagements and co-lead Meradia’s investment performance practice with Mark David, and Jonathan Boersma, who specialize in investment analytics and attribution and investment performance regulation. 

Prior to joining Meradia, Mailhos spent two years with BNY Mellon’s middle-office outsourcing division and 16 years at Eagle Investment Systems. 

Coremont appoints new global COO

Coremont, an FCA-regulated financial services firm that provides front-to-back portfolio management support for hedge funds and institutional asset managers, has appointed Akbar Sheriff as global COO and partner. 

Sheriff joins from State Street where he served as global head of custody and digital client experience, and heading State Street’s institutional services business in UKMEA. Prior to State Street, he was an associate principal at McKinsey & Co., where he served financial services firms across strategy, risk, and digital transformation.
