People Moves: Northern Trust, Finbourne, HKEx, Broadridge, and more

A look at the past month’s people moves within the tech and data space, including Benze Lam (pictured), who becomes Northern Trust’s Hong Kong head.

Northern Trust appoints Lam as Hong Kong head

Northern Trust has appointed Benze Lam as the head of its Hong Kong entity, a newly created role. 

Lam will continue to be based in Hong Kong and retain his position as head of Asia, ex-Japan, for Northern Trust’s Asset Management business in the region. He will be responsible for the Hong Kong office and lead business strategy, and client and regulatory relationships across Asia for Northern Trust Asset Management. He will report to John McCareins, head of Northern Trust Asset Management in Emea and Asia-Pacific. 

Before joining Northern Trust in 2014, Lam was head of sales for China Offshore at UBS Global Asset Management, and has previously held roles in Fidelity, State Street, and Morgan Stanley. 

Former head of BNP Paribas Securities Services joins Finbourne

Data management platform provider Finbourne has named Neil Ryan head of product marketing and solution positioning to drive the vendor’s product and solutions communication strategy across its buy- and sell-side clients.

Ryan was most recently global head of investment analytics and data services at BNP Paribas Securities Services. He has over 25 years of experience in data strategy, product development, business intelligence, data governance and data architecture.

In his new role, Ryan will work closely with Finbourne’s development teams and the organization’s senior stakeholders to align product and marketing efforts with its business goals. 

Broadridge makes senior appointments

Broadridge Financial Solutions has made two senior appointments. It has appointed Mike Sleightholme as president of Broadridge International, and Karin Yorfido as president of Broadridge Canada. 

Based in London, Sleightholme will be responsible for customer support for Broadridge’s technology and data solutions throughout the Emea and Asia-Pacific regions. 

He joined Broadridge in 2022 as president of its asset management solutions. 

Before Broadridge, Sleightholme spent five years at SS&C Technologies as CEO and general manager of its DST Systems business. Prior to that, he spent 20 years at Citigroup in London, Hong Kong, and New York.

Meanwhile, Yorfido succeeds Michael Dignam, who will become vice chairman of Broadridge Canada. Based in Toronto, she will lead Broadridge’s investor communication solutions and global technology operations (GTO) businesses in Canada.

Yorfido will report to Broadridge president Chris Perry. She has over 25 years of financial services and software solutions experience, and had been general manager of GTO Canada since 2021. 

Núñez joins DTCC as MD and CISO

Yonesy Núñez has joined the Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. (DTCC) as managing director and chief information security officer (CISO). Núñez will lead information security and technology risk management at the company. 

He was previously CISO at Jack Henry & Associates before joining DTCC. Before that, he held cyber and information security positions at Wells Fargo, Citi, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. 

TS Imagine expands team with Dietmann

TS Imagine, a trading, portfolio and risk management technology vendor, has appointed Christian Dietmann to its Emea sales team, focusing on the company’s UK sales.

Before TS Imagine, Dietmann held a business development position at TP Icap’s Parameta Solutions’ data and analytics business. Prior to that, he led Liquidnet’s investment analytics sales in Europe for five years. 

Dietmann is the fourth senior sales executive TS Imagine added this year, following the appointments of Stephanie Cheung in Asia-Pacific, and James Muench and Jake Elkins in the US

Credit Benchmark names Crumpler CEO

Credit Benchmark, a credit risk data and analytics provider, has appointed Michael Crumpler as CEO. Donal Smith, current CEO and co-founder, will remain as executive chairman. 

In his role, Crumpler will focus on expanding Credit Benchmark’s client footprint, and building out analytics and product functions that will help clients manage risk. 

He joined Credit Benchmark in 2016 and most recently served as COO and head of risk. 

State Street selects Donohue as head of global investment insights, sustainability and impact

State Street has appointed executive vice president Jessica Donohue as head of global investment insights, sustainability and impact. Donohue succeeds Rick Lacaille, who is retiring. 

She will report to Lou Maiuri, State Street’s president, COO and head of investment services. Donohue was most recently global head of State Street’s asset owner segment. 

She’s also held various senior roles for more than two decades at State Street, including leading investor behavior research at State Street Associates. She also served as chief innovation officer and head of advisory and information solutions for Global Exchange (now State Street Alpha) and head of performance and analytics for investment services.  

HKEx makes senior appointment for mainland China strategy

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd (HKEx) has appointed Jiannan Zhou as managing director and head of mainland development

Zhou joins HKEx to support the exchange’s mainland China expertise, reach, and knowledge. He succeeds Zhirong Mao, who will take on new responsibilities as strategic advisor for the Greater Bay Area and China commodities. 

Zhou and Mao will report to Bonnie Chan, co-COO of HKEx. 

In his new role, Zhou will lead HKEx’s engagement with mainland China regulators and partners. He joins HKEx from Jiahe Asset Management in Shanghai, where he had served as chairman since 2021. 

AccessFintech taps former Goldman Sachs MD

AccessFintech has appointed Christopher Daur as global head of buy side, where he will lead the firm’s global buy-side strategy, product, and sales.

He joins AccessFintech after an 18-year stint at Goldman Sachs, where he was most recently managing director focused on post-trade challenges, strategy, and solutions for the firm’s largest clients. 

Before that, he worked at JP Morgan in multiple operations roles. 

Wells Fargo exec joins Fintech Sandbox’s board

Fintech Sandbox, a non-profit organization providing early-stage startups with free access to datasets and infrastructure, has added Reetika Grewal, executive vice president and head of digital for commercial banking and the corporate and investment bank at Wells Fargo, to its governance board. 

She will help inform new company strategies as Fintech Sandbox continues to scale its support to its startups and partners. 

Grewal joins Fintech Sandbox’s co-founders Sarah Biller and David Jegen, executive director Kelly Freyer, and Goodwin Procter partner Bob Bishop on the governance board. 

At Wells Fargo, Grewal’s team focuses on accelerating the development and implementation of commercial, corporate and investment banking digital offerings and market-competitive capabilities. 

Before Wells Fargo, Grewal was head of digital for the commercial bank at JP Morgan Chase. She is also on the board of Women in Fintech, a non-profit promoting education and networking, and holds a seat on the strategic advisory board at FTV Capital. 

Grasshopper promotes Wong to CIO

Grasshopper, a proprietary trading firm headquartered in Singapore, has promoted Alex Wong to chief investment officer. 

As CIO, Wong—who joined Grasshopper in 2016 as a trader—will lead the firm’s strategic investment decisions, and support Grasshopper’s growth and expansion into new Asian markets and asset management. 

Before this role, he was head of the systematic trading team. He began his career as a proprietary trader in equities and derivatives at Singapore-based Kuranda Trading in 2012. After that, he was head of the low-latency desk at Toji Trading before joining Grasshopper. 

Omega Systems appoints new CEO and COO

Omega Systems, a managed services and managed security services provider, has appointed a new CEO and COO to succeed co-founders Bill and Jen Kiritsis. 

Mike Fuhrman will serve as Omega’s next CEO, while Ben Tercha will serve as the next COO. The Kiritsises will take a step back from day-to-day operations, and transition into roles to provide advisory to Omega’s board on M&A, integration and other strategic objectives. 

Fuhrman joins Omega from Flexential, a hybrid IT solutions provider, where he was COO overseeing the company’s cloud and managed services business. Before that, he held various IT operations and product development roles for technology firms. 

Meanwhile, Tercha has been with Omega for over 17 years, most recently serving as senior vice president of operations.

US states are increasingly banning or limiting the use of non-compete contracts, but financial firms are using them more frequently to safeguard proprietary tech and data assets—including the knowledge of the individuals who work on them.
