People Moves: Tradeweb, BMLL, State Street & more

A look at some recent people moves in the capital markets tech and data space.

Tradeweb promotes Billy Hult to Chief Executive Officer

Tradeweb Markets, an operator of electronic marketplaces for rates, credit, equities and money markets, has appointed William (Billy) Hult as CEO of Tradeweb Markets, and Thomas Pluta as the company’s president. Both Hult and Pluta will continue on the board of directors. Hult was previously president of Tradeweb, a position he held from 2008 to 2022.

Lee Olesky, formerly chairman and CEO, retired as Tradeweb CEO on December 31, 2022, and now serves as non-executive chairman of the board.

Pluta joined Tradeweb in 2022 and has been a member of the board since 2017. As president, he oversees all aspects of the company with direct responsibility for US institutional fixed income and equities, Dealerweb and Tradeweb Direct, as well as risk and compliance. Pluta joined Tradeweb from JP Morgan, where he spent nearly 27 years and was most recently global head of linear rates trading and co-head of North America rates trading.

BMLL appoints Rob Laible as head of Americas

BMLL, a provider of harmonized, historical Level 3 data and analytics, has announced the appointment of industry veteran Rob Laible as head of Americas, with plans to open a New York office.

Rob Laible has more than 30 years’ experience running global institutional businesses across sales and trading, technology, compliance, risk and operations. Most recently he served as global head of equities at Liquidnet.

Before that, Laible held a variety of senior roles including chief operating officer, and global head of execution and quantitative services overseeing the development of Liquidnet’s award-winning suite of algorithms. Before his time at Liquidnet, Laible’s career included working for global organizations such as Macquarie Securities, Nomura, Lehman Brothers and ITG.

At BMLL, Laible will report to Paul Humphrey, CEO of BMLL, and join the senior leadership team to drive the company’s US expansion.

Cboe hires Vikesh Patel as president of Cboe Clear Europe

Cboe Global Markets has announced the appointment of Vikesh Patel as president of Cboe Clear Europe, its European clearing house.

Patel joins from Swift, where he was head of securities, with responsibility for leading its securities strategy globally. Prior to joining Swift in 2017, Patel was a chief operating officer at LCH, focusing on strategy, risk management and the development of new products for the clearing organization’s EquityClear and RepoClear businesses.

Patel has also served in global executive roles at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, with a primary focus on market infrastructure and post-trade strategy. He began his career at HM Treasury working on a range of domestic and international policy areas.

Swift taps Stephen Grainger as chief executive for Americas and UK

Swift announced the appointment of Stephen Grainger as the chief executive for the Americas and UK Region. Grainger was most recently executive vice president at Mastercard, leading the development and commercialization of its global cross-border services business, servicing banks, digital platforms, and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs).

Grainger will drive the region’s overarching direction and growth, focusing his efforts on further developing strategic customer relationships, supporting customers as they work to transform the cross-border payment experience for their end clients, and working with securities players to improve the efficiency of post-trade processing.

Grainger has two decades of banking experience, and has previously served in senior business development roles at Swift. He has also held positions at Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, and Citi.

Andreas Przewloka joins State Street Bank International as executive vice president and chief executive officer

State Street announced that Andreas Przewloka has been appointed as executive vice president and chief executive officer for State Street Bank International. Przewloka, who assumed his new role on January 1, 2023, reports to Joerg Ambrosius, chief commercial officer for State Street and chairman of the board of SSBI.

Przewloka will lead State Street’s custody and investment servicing business across continental Europe. He brings more than two decades of financial services experience to the role. He joins State Street from UBS, where he held various senior leadership positions, most recently serving as chief operating officer of Frankfurt-based UBS Europe SE. Przewloka will be based in Frankfurt and will also serve as State Street’s Germany country head.

Przewloka succeeds Stefan Gmuer, who has served as SSBI’s CEO for the last 20 years. Gmuer will continue to expand relationships in the official institutions segment which he will continue to lead globally as well as driving innovation and thought leadership. He will also serve as executive sponsor for a set of strategic client relationships and continue to report to Joerg Ambrosius.
