Royal Dutch Shell has started using enterprise data management platform provider Cadis' EDM platform for its global treasury department, replacing legacy systems in which data had been encoded, Inside Reference Data has learned.

Previously, this coded data could only be deciphered by Shell's IT department, according to provider officials. "The Cadis EDM platform has empowered the business users to focus on the validation or transformation of rules that apply to specific rates," says Daniel Simpson, chief executive of Cadis. "Going forward, Shell can ensure the integrity of its data and provide a higher level of transparency for financial reporting."

Shell officials sought a new platform to provide better internal controls and meet financial reporting requirements under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in the US. "With the Cadis platform, Shell reduced its manual processes and increased its level of automation and controls for rates processing," says Simpson.

The Cadis EDM platform operates as a central hub for data. Using the platform, Shell can cleanse, validate and distribute data to its treasury departments worldwide as well as 30 enterprise resource planning systems within the company, according to Simpson.
