This Week: BMLL makes historical datasets available on Snowflake; Tradeweb; Interop.io; and more
A summary of the latest financial technology news.
BMLL hosts historical datasets on Snowflake Marketplace
BMLL, a provider of harmonized historical level 3 data and analytics across equity and futures markets, announced the availability of three datasets on Snowflake Marketplace, completing the first phase of a partnership with the cloud data platform.
This follows the announcement in September that BMLL and Snowflake had entered into a partnership that has big implications for the data provider, says BMLL CEO Paul Humphrey.
“We’re looking to scale ourselves through Snowflake, and this is just the start of it,” Humphrey tells WatersTechnology.
He says that the partnership with the cloud data company arose when Snowflake invested in BMLL during its Series B funding round last year. BMLL had been using Snowflake as the data delivery service for its datasets to another of its investors, FactSet, prompting Snowflake to take an interest in BMLL’s business model.
“Snowflake asked us: ‘Why are so many banks and firms in financial services across the world sitting on piles of useless raw data? Why don’t they all use yours?’” Humphrey recalls. He stresses that one of BMLL’s central tenets is flexibility with data delivery methods.
“A company comes to BMLL for data because our data is high-quality, and it’s unique. We as a company want to be completely agnostic of how it’s delivered. So it’s on us to make our data available in as many ways as we can,” he says.
R3 launches new product suite on Corda
R3, an enterprise distributed-ledger technology and services firm, has rolled out a new product suite for use on its Corda platform. The R3 Digital Markets product suite is directed at firms in regulated markets wishing to leverage digital assets and currencies. Contained within R3 Digital Markets are R3 Digital Currency, R3 Digital Assets, R3 Digital Connect and R3 Digital Lab, which all allow firms to manage tokenized deposits, implement lifecycle management solutions based on DLT architecture, and enable interoperability between traditional systems and DLT networks.
R3 has also hired Kate Karimson as chief commercial officer. Karimson joins R3 following stints at CME Group, BrokerTec, Icap and LedgerEdge.
Interop.io, Lab49 partner to redesign trading desktop experience
Technology design and strategy consultancy Lab49 has joined up with Interop.io, a container-based interoperability services provider, to redesign and modernize the trading desktop user experience for traders, portfolio managers, risk managers and other finance professionals.
As part of the partnership, buy-side and sell-side firms will be offered access to the full suite of Interop.io solutions tailored to their individual needs, in order to improve operational efficiency and replace outdated technology. The aim is to make the product and platform design teams work closer together and streamline difficult workflows.
By using interop.io’s maturity model, firms will be able to benefit from increased strategic alignment, as opposed to technical compatibility, and will be afforded long-term strategic goals over the next 5 to 10 years.
Tradeweb completes r8fin acquisition
Fixed-income marketplace Tradeweb has announced that it has completed its acquisition of r8fin, a technology provider specializing in algorithmic execution for US Treasuries and interest rate futures.
The deal, which was first announced in November last year, follows the acquisition of Yieldbroker (now Tradeweb Australia) by Tradeweb, and is expected to modestly increase revenue growth.
